Weight Loss Progress / Month 5

by Brad Johnston on Jun.12, 2008, under brad

At my most recent Weight Watchers weigh-in, today, I was down a total of 50.4lbs. Of course, that may be different now given that we had Sonic for dinner tonight. Oops. Anyway, I still have another 70 to go. I’m guessing it probably won’t go nearly as fast as the first fifty did! We’re still with Lifetime Fitness in Chanhassen and I’m going at least three times a week. That combined with eating smaller portions and getting all my water in seems to be doing the trick. We also picked up a Wii Fit a few weeks ago now and that has helped marginally with my balance and such.

Minnesota’s First Sonic Drive-In

by Brad Johnston on Jun.12, 2008, under moblog

This is the staging area for Minnesota’s first Sonic Drive-In. Brandy brought a book, the kids have their DVD player, I have my blog. Sigh.

The line we were in was for the stalls while the line to the left of us was for the drive-thru. Both lines moved at around the same pace. From the time we arrived to the time we got our food, took about 45 minutes.

While I’d go to a Sonic again, certainly not while it’s this busy. They just opened within the last week, so they’re due a break. Brandy and I both ordered their Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster sandwich which comes with BBQ sauce. Brandy ordered it without, but with mayo and ketchup. We get our order and both of our sandwiches are missing all the sauces. So we buzz them to tell them that we just need some sauce. Ten minutes later, they bring us two new sandwiches. Confused by this, we explain that all we needed were the sauces. The carhop said, "Well looks like you get two free sandwiches!" I glance in the bag, and it’s someone else’s order, but with our receipt. The carhops leaves and comes back 5 minutes later with BBQ sauce and mayo, no ketchup. Fortunately someone had arrived 3 minutes earlier with extra condiments. Yikes.

So all in all, our cold burgers were OK, the tots were average, and the kids seemed to like their kid’s meals (Katie got the corndog and Kieran got a grilled cheese). I’m guessing once they iron out the bugs, they’ll be fine.

Plant photos

by Brad Johnston on Jun.03, 2008, under moblog

Here we have Katie posing with the various foliage around the Johnston home. The most successful one has been the tomato bush. It has grown from a measily 8″ to nearly 2′ since early/mid-May. The petunias and germaniums seem happy enough but perhaps a little crowded in their pots. The fuschia hasn’t changed much since we bought it from Home Depot. It’s a low maintenance plant which I appreciate. The tropical hibiscus is recovering. It wasn’t very happy about being left without water for a week while we were in Florida last month. It protested by shedding most of it’s leaves which are slowly growing back. Oh, it probably wasn’t very thrilled about being knocked over either. Before I repotted it, if it dried up, a stiff breeze could have knocked it over. Thus, when we returned from Florida, there it was — parallel to the ground.

American Pastime / Hutchinson Minn

by Brad Johnston on Jun.01, 2008, under moblog

Spent the afternoon and early evening with the Fischer’s. Heather reports that the lunch special is the way to go here. It includes salad bar, soup, and choice of brisket or pulled pork.

I had a Brisket Ruben with salad bar. The sandwich was an interesting twist to the classic ruben. Good, but nothing memorable.

Around Hutchinson

by Brad Johnston on Jun.01, 2008, under moblog

Wandered around a bit after dinner at American Pastime. The Fischer’s showed us the new Crow River Dam. The new $1.2m cascading 9,000 ton rock dam replaced Hutchinson’s deteriorating dam in late 2007.
