Brad, a Ho for City Council
by Brad Johnston on Oct.15, 2008, under food, friends, kaitlyn, moblog
I figured at least my brother would get a kick out of this guy’s name. I sure did! I guess this leaves little left for the imagination on my maturity.
I was just looking at bradaho.com and saw a picture of him. He kinda looks like the kinda guy that might get pissed off at me for this. Oh well. Sorry, my fellow Brad. You can tell on me to Norm Coleman if it makes you feel better.

Computer vs. Hand-drawn animation
by Brad Johnston on Mar.15, 2007, under friends
The Walt Disney Company has announced that they have started production on “The Frog Princess” which will be set in New Orleans and feature a black princess. They have announced that the film will be created by hand as opposed to computer animation which I’m so thankful for. While computer animated movies are technologically impressive and all, I still prefer the hand-drawn style. I don’t mean to offend those that enjoy creating 3D models or animation, such as my wife, but it just seems to me that a computer allows the PC to do most of the creativity? I may be naive in saying that but I guess I just haven’t been as impressed with a computer doing the grunt labor over a human painting each cell. I may be completely wrong as I’m certainly no animator myself. I’m just a person that enjoys good quality entertainment, hence my strong Disney preference!
Jim McKillip
by Brad Johnston on Mar.20, 2006, under friends
I was just informed by my parents that the guy that helped us with our first Windows PC eleven years ago, died this past week. He worked with my mother at the Kneip Building and was pretty much the only guy we knew at the time that had any computer experience in Pierre. Eventually he taught me the ways of the one BBS that was in Pierre. About the only other option for connectivity in Pierre at the time was 2400 baud dial-up to AOL at $10/hr, so the BBS was a favorable alternative. He also walked me through my first “oops” when I wrecked the operating system and required a format of the hard drive and reinstall of Windows. He was a real nice and friendly guy and always willing to help out. I wish I had stayed in contact with him since I left Pierre eight years ago.

Jon & Kim’s Wedding Weekend
by Brad Johnston on Jun.27, 2005, under friends
Two very good friends and Katie’s godparents were married this weekend in Stillwater, MN. Katie was the Flower Girl and I was the Best Man. Katie got a Radio Flyer wagon out of the deal and even got to ride down the aisle in it with her mommy pulling her. She thought it was a pretty extra special treat – especially where everyone turned to smile at her! She squealed the whole way down to the alter.
The wedding seemed to have went off without any obvious problems. The food was delicious, the weather wasn’t overly hot – though if you had asked me at the time I would have diagreed. The temperature in a tuxedo is about twice the air tempature. The only thing bad that happend was Katie took a spill down the outside stairs leading to the Durango and got a big bump on her forehead. Ironically, a family member of Jon’s have a little boy that is about Katie’s age and he also took a spill down the stairs of their RV that morning! Not a good morning for little toddlers.
Jon and Kim will be leaving Tuesday for a RV tour along with their family for their honeymoon. I’m overly jealous. I’m sure someday I’ll get my chance to do the same.
Sunday, Sarah returned to Eden Prairie Sunday night to watch Katie on Monday – a day that our daycare provider had requested off. Sarah arrived first on Wednesday night and watched Katie on Thursday and Friday of last week and will once again this Friday, the 1st. She’s been very, very helpful! Our friends are very good to us. All we have to offer is this wonderful child for them to admire.
Jon’s Bachelor Weekend at Interstate
by Brad Johnston on Jun.06, 2005, under friends
Interstate State Park is one gorgous park. I’ll definitely need to return here and check out a couple more of the trails. Moho and I wimpered when we saw the view on the Horizon Rock Trail. It had been sprinkling just as we were leaving the Skyline Trail and the view of the valley was outstanding with the humidity in the air.
The drink of the weekend appeared to be Sparks which is some sort of alcohol and energy drink which to me, seems to be sort of contradictory? In any event – it tasted ok and turned our teeth and tounge’s a mysterious orange color. We also drank a jug of cheap Chianti and a twelve year old bottle of Scotch.
I’ll be posting pictures eventually. My camera among many other items are still in the Eclipse as I was exhausted yesterday from being mildly hungover and the four mile hike we went on. I do a lot of walking these days but quickly realized that I don’t work much with of an incline to work the appropriate muscles! I also gained three pounds from the weekend. I’m blaming the beer, brats, and hobo dinners. Hopefully I’ll be back down to where I was pre-weekend before this coming next weekend.
